Ferment coffee


Over lockdown last year we were allowed to go out for walks around our local neighbourhoods. Some businesses were able to operate using click and collect (order online or phone then pick up). This one caught my eye selling coffee, I thought it was unusual but clever as they are a wine and beer shop but at least they thought of a way through the tough time.

Those 'hatches' selling coffe to take away or drink at standing tables on the pavement are part of the coffee culture here (and, i believe, in Italy).

We could also walk around during lockdown which was a great source of our only entertainment outside.

Those were the days. I hated them but the merchants figured out ways to stay in business.

a coffee truck in a huge park/forest outside Brussels operating during lockdown (along with those long walks in nature) saved my mental health last year.

The ones that learned to think outside the box had/have a much better chance of surviving! Apparently many restaurants are opening now with only a takeout option (no inside dining) because people got used to delivery and takeaway.

  Photo taken Spring 2024 in Auckland We have been invited to a family reunion in June 2026 which will be held in Auckland so I'm looking forward to catching up with relatives that I haven't seen in over 10 years.  This week we have: Had a good chat with a friend who has also adopted a rescue dog - must arrange a play date. I've bought some non alcoholic liqueurs to mix up for mocktails which have been very nice as I don't really drink. We had a massive wind storm 2 days ago, we were ok but a good friend who lives 20 minutes away had a bolt of lightning strike her house, the result was a blown up power box inside and part of her kitchen got burned, she had to call out the fire brigade to put it out. Hail

  Spring is throwing out some strange weather right now. We don't get snow where we live but it is visible on some of the mountains around us over Winter. Last week around 4.30am we had a very loud thunderstorm with hail. It wasn't until an hour or so later my daughter said this is what she saw out on our deck.  Clumps of hail all over the deck and on her hand. Apparently various other suburbs around town got it too.
