Hokitika!

This sign made out of driftwood on the beach in Hokitika is now a kiwiana icon. Created by Don Neale in 2015 it began as an entry in a driftwood competition with the pieces joined together by flax which then won and now thousands of people every year specifically visit this West Coast town just to see it and take photos.

Have you seen any of the other driftwood creations from those competitons? They are fabulous. My bro in law is a wood turner and loves collecting big bits of arty driftwood on west coast beaches.

I've often seen the photo of that sign. It's nice to know the story behind it

...now this is clever! Driftwood can be a material to work with. Thanks Amy for joining the party!
