Reduce, reuse, recycle

Another one from Fiji 5 years ago when we were on holiday there. This photo is from a town called Sigatoka and the sign on the right is ironic really considering overall it isn't a very clean place. The resorts are lovely but the water is polluted, people leave rubbish literally everywhere all over the streets and beaches, animals are left to roam wild where they do their business where they want. Shame that a destination holiday place couldn't be more looked after. At least in New Zealand here people are a bit more tidier, could be better though. Old house

Image
Over the weekend B and I visited a friend who lives in this large turn of the 20th century house in town, he doesn't own it however so I took these photos only so as to not intrude into the owner's personal suff. Unfortunately it needs ALOT of work such as the foundations piles which are sinking, the metal work is rusting and will probably need more money than most people have to fix the rest of the problems. But the interior is beautiful. Above and below are 2 of the stained glass doors within the house which surprisingly are still looking immaculate with no cracks.  The wallpaper on the right is throughout the house and is original. Apparently the house was first built for a local business man who was quite wealthy who also owned one of the local pubs in town. It's quite sad to see it looking in this state. Afternoon

Image
We had a very quiet boxing day here. My 2 adult children plus B and I dared to venture into town to see what sales were on. We snooped at The Warehouse and got one or two deals on marked down clothing and I spent my Christmas gift voucher they got me at Mitre 10 so I could buy some more vegetable punnets and lavender plants. My boss and his wife who are from India had given me a $50 voucher to their restaurant that they also own so B and I used it to get Vegetable Korma and Mushroom Masala for our dinner that night. We waited at a table just after lunch time so it wasn't that busy, just the man on the left and a family to the right of us.   Photo taken outside Greymouth's local hardware store. New Year's eve came and went here, I was working but when I got home it was time for a cup and tea and bed. I'm very thankful to not have heard any fireworks around from the neighbours so I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year for 2026.
