Reduce, reuse, recycle

Another one from Fiji 5 years ago when we were on holiday there. This photo is from a town called Sigatoka and the sign on the right is ironic really considering overall it isn't a very clean place. The resorts are lovely but the water is polluted, people leave rubbish literally everywhere all over the streets and beaches, animals are left to roam wild where they do their business where they want. Shame that a destination holiday place couldn't be more looked after. At least in New Zealand here people are a bit more tidier, could be better though.

It is sad when people get past caring

It's sad to see that. Some of our most beautiful beaches are left with garbage and there is no need for it. Plain old laziness.

I think there are very few places that could be called pristine these days. I remember being on a train leaving London and witnessing the most abhorrent make-do rubbish tip behind a block of flats and next to the train lines, not to mention the rubbish in the streets over there.
I'm afraid many people are lazy and find tidying and cleaning difficult. That's certainly not unique to Fiji.

While the resorts are pristine, the broader environment suffers from pollution and poor stewardship, making the comparison with New Zealand’s relatively tidier public spaces both inevitable and sobering

I think many needs of the people aren’t met there either.
