Gloria

A couple of weekends ago a lovely friend of mine named Sam had an open day for his pink church in Blaketown that he has named "Gloria" so the local community could come and check him out, the church and his art.

Sam is a lovely man who sometimes comes into my work and chats with me. Him and I like to outdo each other with our unusual and weird ear rings. The idea of the church is to encourage others who are gay/LGBTQ/non binary/ etc or whatever to be themselves. Everything inside is painted pink and there is a dressing up area full of cool and unusual clothes for people to try on.

A book reading area with some comfy couches and crochet blankets is on the left and on the right is a piano that reminds me of Elton John.

On the left is some of his artwork and sculptures for sale and on the right is Sam himself sitting at his desk, he was a bit shy today for a photo.

Thank you to those who wished New Zealand well for the cyclone. I'm in the South Island whereas the storm was forecast for the North Island (we are made up of 2 small islands in the Pacific Ocean). It ended up veering off the east coast so never went anywhere near us and it didn't cause too much damage thankfully. Sadly cyclones are a fairly common thing here, they don't happen all the time but we do get them occasionally.

Linking up with Tuesday Treasures and Happy Tuesdays.

What a beautiful purpose for that church. And Sam has made something beautiful out of it.

From a Dutch perspective, I wouldn't really call New Zealand small.

His church has shades of Grayson Perry. So much fun.

What a wonderful place for people to be themselves. I bet I'd enjoy browsing around in that pretty pink hue.
