Browns Bay beach on Auckland's North Shore is where I grew up. I spent ALOT of time here at this beach as a child although I don't remember this war memorial being there back then.
Known as the "Stone of Remembrance" it was unveiled in Anzac Day 1968 with the stone being dedicated by Rev. M. Walsh on April 25th 1968.

For a simple war memorial it is a good idea to locate them with a view of the sea, giving an extra solemnity to them. This one is perfect.

Lovely scene, the memorial and the beach beyond
A stone is certainly a good choice for remembering.
Memorials overlooking sea always seem more poignant somehow - those that went away ovet the sea and never came back. A sense of longing.
A lovely memorial and the view only adds to its beauty and meaning.
