Veges, eggs and crochet

 

Mornings are slowly starting to get darker here and nights are getting a bit nippy. I was asked by a friend if I could make a crochet knee blanket for one of her friends, so after her posting the pattern and wool to me I discovered that they had only bought one colour of each ball of wool which wasn't anywhere near enough because as the blanket gets bigger, the more wool you need. So I ended up having to buy more and thankfully my friend has reimbursed me - this is the finished product which I will end up posting back to her this week.

Normally each day we get at between 3 and 4 eggs from our chickens. The one on the right is one I found last week, it's at least twice the size of the average one on the left and was a double yoker after I cracked it.

 

I've got pumpkin, cauliflower and broccoflower growing in the vege garden and the Chicken poop has been great for putting in the soil.

Tree

While stopping into the local wool and craft shop last week I noticed how bare the trees are now around town. All their leaves are gone and people are staying at home more. We just had a second load of firewood delivered today, the first load of pine blocks we ordered about a month ago and so we now have a nice supply of wood that will last for a while (hopefully).

A few days ago I finished this pair of baby booties and a matching beanie for my son and his partner's baby. I just have to get around to posting them. I had bought some bulk wool online for a good price so I decided these were a good project to work on.

Bruno and Floki

When I first bought this house last November I purchased online a small cat tower as back then we only had Mr Cat and Bruno. Now that we also have Tiger and Floki we also have 2 more cat towers making 3 altogether. Sometimes Bruno and Floki will squeeze onto the same bed and groom each other, Mr Cat has her own bed on the floor and Tiger has taken up the lowest one.

We have expanded on the vege garden outside. Now we have 2 red chilli plants, various mini Spinach (bright lights) rainbow chard, some calendula flowers and tea tree (manuka) growing in amongst them and the tomatoes in order to attract bees.

And I finally finished this wool crochet blanket that I posted to my niece last week, it's big enough to fit a single sized bed, from what I hear she loved it. My next project involves me making green granny squares to eventually sew together.

Quest

I remember this scene in Paihia in Summer 2021. The man sitting on a chair on the left usually lives in Kerikeri, where we lived but I was surprised to see him here too but he was working on a piece of crochet with his needles, strange and cool but true. I wonder if he's on a quest to make as much as he can? Sometimes he would stand on a street with a sign saying "gratitude for a haircut" so I'm guessing he wasn't very well off but he seemed to be a nice person.
