On the rocks near the beach in Hokitika is this driftwood sign which was made by local artist Don Neale in 1998. It's constructed of driftwood which most West Coast beaches have loads of literally everywhere all over the sand. It's like a local icon and many people both international and national tourists love to take selfies and photos of it.
This week has been a very mild Autumn for us. We've had rain showers but not enough to fill up the water tank in the backyard which 36,000 litres. We are also connected to town water supply but we never use it as we don't seem to run out by using the tank. It's a shame that the north island is getting constantly hit by cyclones and rain because we would like a share of it.

You have a lot of imaginative people around you. It must be quite sturdy to last all those years. Great art
Have you ever had an opportunity to go to the driftwood art event at Hokitka?
Looks amazing
That's great. I am surprised how well it lasts.
Fantastic shot like a fine art
It looks romantic.
A beautiful and creative way to use the driftwood. I just wonder how it has stayed standing upright right by the sea for over 27 years.
Beautiful blog
Love the driftwood sign.
I love that driftwood sign. I can see why it is popular. Not only is cool initself, it has a spectacular setting.
Beautiful! It's difficult for me to imagine this time of year as autumn (I'm in the part of the USA that looks like a mitten) but I bet its also strange for you to think of this as spring, too!
Cool sign. Took me a second to figure out the letters! We get a lot of driftwood along our Northern California beaches.
Very unique.
