Yuletide

 

 

All of these Christmas decorations have been seen in local Greymouth stores over the last 2 weeks. 

I think this year for the first time in a long time I'm feeling more festive. The last 7 years on and off I have worked in various supermarkets and let me tell you, people go absolutely nuts just because shops are closed for 1 day. I've seen people getting into punch ups over who would go through a checkout first and I've seen people get nasty and rude with no Christmas spirit at all. This year I'm working in a nice place with great colleagues and nice customers - no angst at all so I'm really feeling a lot happier.

Xmas decorations

 

Greymouth has 3 main streets in town. On the way home from work at night I've been stopping to take photos of some of the shop window decorations. It's good to see businesses getting into the Christmas spirit. Please remember: I live in a small town, all shops except supermarkets close around 6pm so there aren't many people around in these photos at 8pm.

Last week after a hair appointment I wandered around the 2 main streets of Greymouth to see if any other shops had their Christmas decorations up. This one selling posh household wares had their tree up in the window, if you can just see the top of it then you might see my reflection also in the window.

I read a few days ago about someone on Facebook having a digital/social media break. I think this is going to be important to me so my goal for the rest of the year is to spend less time online. I think it can become too much involved in life.

2 more photos taken when I was on my way home from work at 8pm so no one around, shops tend to close around 6pm-ish except the 2 supermarkets we have here. It's only mid November and already I am seeing Christmas decorations in shop windows.

Santa has been spotted in Silverdale Pack n Save Supermarket - seen last weekend while we were in Auckland for 4 days.

Britomart Christmas Tree

 

While driving through Auckland city over the weekend we drove around trying to find this giant Christmas tree in Downtown Square near Britomart train station. 

And on the other side of the square these Christmas balls - the same as you would put on your tree but alot bigger in size.

Our town is once again holding a Christmas competition involving local businesses. This one is a real estate's office which has decorated it's frontage to look like candy canes, snow and lights.

Reflections of Bad Habits

Outside a bar/restaurant named "Bad Habits" in Paihia my daughter and I stopped to admire all these Christmas decorations.  I checked out their menu online and it looks very impressive. 

This weekend we have been watching the yacht racing between Emirates Team NZ, Lunar Rossa Prada, Ineos Team UK and American Magic.  They've had perfect hot Summer weather - oh to be out on the water in Auckland. Bliss!

And lastly i was in the cafe next to my work today buying my favourite iced coffee with chocolate sauce and couldn't believe the amount of people not scanning the apps on their phone with the Covid qv code along with no social distancing - they are meant to be 2 metres apart here and there are signs up everywhere but because we don't have any community cases people don't care.

Wooden Christmas trees in Tauranga

On my one day off this week (Friday morning) the teens and I drove into Tauranga City to look around the shops. I was originally going to try and find the Winter Wonderland in Goddards Shopping Center but after walking around we couldn't find it in the end. On our way back to the car we heard these clever men playing some awfully good blues music, surrounded by wooden Christmas Trees that have been placed around the area.

These wooden Christmas trees have been made to celebrate the festive season and each one has been decorated and adorned with badges from various organizations and local community groups. They're something different don't you think?
