Last week while my daughter R and I were out and about we dropped off a load of unwanted items to our local Salvation Army op shop and spotted these Christmas trees in the foyer. Looks like people donated trees for others to buy who can't afford much.
A rare photo of my outdoor furniture on the deck and washing on the line in the backyard while we had blue skies. So far for the last few weeks we have had rain, hopefully next week will be better.
And our dog Bug had a much needed play date with her best friend Max. It's a good opportunity to tire them both out.
And I finished a crochet blanket for one of my daughter's friends who has been going through a hard time this year.

My daughter R and I were at our local vets last week getting some allergy medicine for her dog "Bug". They had 2 Christmas trees up, one at each end of the building.
And Bug saw another dog she wanted to play with while we were waiting - she thinks everyone is a friend.

Greymouth has 3 main streets in town. On the way home from work at night I've been stopping to take photos of some of the shop window decorations. It's good to see businesses getting into the Christmas spirit. Please remember: I live in a small town, all shops except supermarkets close around 6pm so there aren't many people around in these photos at 8pm.

This was from last week, the ladies in the photo were walking so fast it looked like they were zooming along. I was watching a weather forecast online last week which covered the whole of New Zealand and it looks like we are in for quite a rainy Summer this year - something to do with La Niña so we will probably have days of rain then days of heat and humidity.

B decided to put up our Christmas tree last week then he discovered that some of the lights don't work so he ordered some more online. The decorations are probably over 10 years old so maybe time to buy some new ones at some point. I was surprised 1 of our 4 cats didn't take more interest in it.
And a couple of weeks ago B and I were invited to my oldest son's wedding in Auckland. On the left is my sister, my ex mother in law then me with my one grandchild. She is soooooo cute and I got to babysit for the night while my son and daughter in law went out and relaxed. Edited to add: there were other family members here, they just weren't in this particular photo.

While driving through Auckland city over the weekend we drove around trying to find this giant Christmas tree in Downtown Square near Britomart train station.
And on the other side of the square these Christmas balls - the same as you would put on your tree but alot bigger in size.

So with tomorrow being Christmas Day for us I will probably be relaxing and having a quiet day at home so I thought I'd share some photos I've taken over the last week or so in various shops around town. Enjoy and Merry Christmas to you!
Well this week I'm working 6 days so by boxing day I think a much needed rest will be in order. I'm looking forward to starting my new job. There will be lots of new things to learn but I think I will be ok. I'm done with the work drama.

But the good news is that so far I've had 2 training sessions at my new job and although I am picking things up, I have learned that I can pour a good handle of beer. I'm one of those people that learns by doing...you can explain something to me but I connect the dots by putting it into practice. Sometimes if I want to accomplish something I will pick it up instantly and other times I nut it out until I've got it.
I'm still working retail until the first week of January and the madness of Christmas is about to hit us. So far it's been pretty quiet but I'm expecting next week to be bonkers. I'll be glad when it's over.

Many of you will have Winter at this time of year especially over Christmas. For us in the Southern Hemisphere this is our Christmas. Being Summer, many people spend time at the beach.
When we lived in Mount Maunganui I took many photos of people and happenings on the local beach. This boy and his father were flying their kite in the breeze.

Lots of news this week from me. We have adopted this male Cockatiel as his elderly owner has gone into a care home. He didn't have a name so we have named him Hooligan. So far he's been pretty quiet but that's probably because he doesn't know us. Hopefully in time he will be a bit more talkative and noisy.
I was at one of our local stores, The Warehouse and noticed that their Christmas displays are up. Is it too early for this? Being November I think so. Mind you I am happy that there is no Christmas music being played just yet.
And this bunch of lettuce is what I harvested from my small vege garden. It's been so yummy putting bits and pieces into my lunch that I take to work. Speaking of work last week I handed in my notice to my manager. I've been doing supermarket retail for about 5 years now and working the hours of 12pm to 9pm has been pretty regular for me so I'm at the point where I'm a little bit over it. I am starting in a new job on New Year's day at our local RSA (returned services association like for veterans) doing barwork and admin duties which will make a nice welcome change and the hours are pretty good too.
You know how sometimes it's not what you know but who you know? Two people from the local RSA come into work regularly to buy meat packs for their raffles and a while back I got talking to 1 of them who said he was leaving. I mentioned that I was interested in working there and the next day he came back and asked me to go and see his manager which I did who then offered me a job there, so it's worked out quite well. I'm excited for a change.
