Yuletide

I've been seeing alot of Christmas trees lately. These ones above and below were seen at Christchurch airport when we were there 2 weeks ago.

And this one was seeing outside The Warehouse in Pukekohe, Auckland. Nice to see places getting festive.

Game

This is a fun thing we saw last time we were at Christchurch Airport last November. It's a big chess game board that we've seen people playing with.

Flowers

Taken in November 2023 at Christchurch Airport - this is one section people walk through that links half of the domestic terminal to the food court and the other half of the domestic terminal.

Speaking of flowers, Summer will be fading into early Autumn here in a few weeks. It started quite late here as we were having some cool rainy days right up until mid December. I'm looking forward to seeing some more colour on the trees in March.

Art at Christchurch Airport

Whenever we travel through Christchurch Airport we sometime find it a slightly overwhelming confusing experience as it isn't as easy to get through as Auckland Airport is unless you specifically know where you are going. Last time we were there last November I spotted these two large art installations hanging from the roof of the domestic baggage claim area. They were created by New Zealand artist Gregor Kegar who designed them to honour two things; South Island inventor Richard Pearse who flew an aircraft near Temuka 9 months before the American Wright Brothers first flight and Aotearoa being the land of the long white cloud.

Man with mask

The week we were here on holiday before we moved down in January 2022 we were waiting for our flight at Christchurch airport and I was snapping random photos on my phone - back when we had to wear masks in public places. I'm not sure what he was doing, possibly looking at his phone. In the background is the cafe/bookshop with seating for people to wait.

Flowers

When we stopped at Christchurch Airport back in January I noticed this tropical looking mural but since then I've been struggling to find out anything about it. All I can find is that it may have been part of the "street art/murals and installations" there but no idea who painted it.

News from us: we have finally found a rental property and are hoping to move in tomorrow. It'll be nice living in an insulated warm sunny house closer to town. Until now I have been driving half an hour to and from work on very dark country roads.

Coffee time

I spotted this mural in Christchurch Airport earlier this year. Situated against a wall in the cafe it talks about how coffee and different types of coffee throughout New Zealand is so necessary. I quite agree.

Pink

I spotted this display in our local Mitre 10 hardware store. While I love the idea of gumboots (as well call them) for women, I'm not ...
