Here's me taking photos of the historical and modern buildings when this lady walked directly in front of me, I think she thought I was deliberately taking a photo of her, she just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time...

We were pretty lucky last weekend. Living on the West Coast there is a popular belief that this is the most rained place in New Zealand - it's actually not. the poor North Island has been repeatedly struck by storms, cyclones and huge amounts of rain. This week we have actually had rain and showers, typical Autumn weather - but nothing major. In the last 6 weeks I've finished 2 couch throws for Winter, one for me and one for B but I'm now halfway through a rainbow coloured one for my grand daughter Hailey who lives in Auckland.
I had to fill up my car again earlier this week and for half a tank it was $3.65 per litre, it cost me $68 so prices seem to be continuing to go up. I wonder when this silly situation will finally end?
I ended up posting a birthday card to my father on Tuesday which amazed me as 1 stamp cost me just under $3 which seems a bit expensive and the length of time sending anything from one place to another seems to take so much longer than it use to. My mother sent me a birthday card in March and it took well over a week. I think the post office system has shut down alot of it's services as people don't use it as much as they use to.
Lastly, I've finally given away the last of the pumpkins I grew over Summer. I kept 2, 1 I made pumpkin/corn soup with and the other 4 I gave away to friends. I think this year I'll try growing them inside the greenhouse over Spring in case we have heavy rain like we did last year.

We are starting to get some darker mornings and shorter nights here as Autumn creeps in. People are now wearing warmer clothing and we have just put the electric blanket back on the bed. Daylight savings has just ended and luckily so far we have plenty of wood in preparation for Winter. B use to work at one of the local sawmills just outside of town and he was allowed to take home all the leftover offcuts which we have some stored in the carport next to the garage and the rest is in an old concrete structure next to the house. Lucky it hasn't been cold enough to start using it.
This weekend is going to be interesting. The north island of New Zealand is about to be hit with a whopping cyclone from the Pacific Islands so if you're up that way (like my family) stay safe.

I'm not much of a huggy person, I don't like people I don't know trying to hug me but a hug from someone I do know can be a nice thing to receive. It's good to see a happy moment playing out in public.
We've had a very productive weekend here. A lot of places around the country have had cold wet weather but we've had some nice hot days and got quite a few things done on our days off such as a trip to the local tip to get rid of the unwanted broken stuff we found in the cupboards and garage. In the end it cost us $64 NZD which is expensive but everything probably added up. It's nice to have a clear driveway now.

I think every person in New Zealand is looking forward to Summer. Last year over Spring it rained just about every day. This year we've had big dumps of rain at least once a week. Roll on warmer weather.
Halloween has come and gone here, we usually don't have trick or treaters as we live just out of town so it was a very quiet night.

This is a favourite place to enjoy coffee. It's our local Mitre 10 (hardware store) cafe which includes a garden centre to the right. They make good drinks and food.
After reading Graham's post this morning about politics, it's gotten me thinking about New Zealand's own political system. Why are so many people in power so interested in putting themselves ahead of their own country? Like my late grandmother use to say "it'll all be over for me in less than 100 years so I won't be here to see it".

For the last few weeks we've been very lucky on the West Coast to have had lovely sunny Spring weather. Now for the next week or so we have heavy rain forecast. It's been good to see people out and about enjoying the warmth.

One from Auckland International Airport. This is only one small part of the whole area, a cafe named the Gypsy Moth. It is the busiest Airport in New Zealand but not the only one. The smaller regions have airports that are domestic whereas Auckland, Rotorua, Queenstown, Wellington and Christchurch are international.

I was in town last week getting a haircut when I happened to see this man dressed like a cowboy crossing the road, it's not often I see someone like this, each to their own I guess...
Always good to catch up with friends for a good natter but not as long as the footpath is not blocked.

I do like it when people take pride in their appearance. Unfortunately these days we tend to see more of the jeans hanging down off people and scruffy fashion. I spotted this lady when we were up in Auckland last year walking along Karangahape Road., I think she looks very smart.
