Winter skies over Tawharanui

Last winter I was playing around with the panorama function on my cellphone and happened to catch this awesome photo of a place I use to spend alot of time at - the Tawharanui Peninsula is just north of Auckland and is an amazing place to enjoy the scenery and do some fishing, both surf casting and out in a boat. This shot of stormy skies reflecting on the water in the low tide over the patterns on the sand is a glimpse of what winter in New Zealand is all about - days hibernating inside and seeing sights like this.

View from Mount Maunganui - sit down and relax

A couple of weeks ago when I climbed, and I use that term recklessly because of how darn hard it was Mount Maunganui, when we were at the top looking out over the stunning landscape there were lots of other people around us too. This young lady was sitting on one side of the mountain on these stairs relaxing. I couldn't help wondering what she was thinking about? It's a perfect place to ponder life and anything else that's on your mind - can't wait to do all this again.

Winter is here but there's still plenty of colour!

Another storm swept through here over the weekend swamping already soggy regions around Northland. Seems we got a respite Sunday morning because I was able to get out for a walk to the surf beach. On the way it was nice to see some colour in the form of this pink heather in someone's garden.

This one is Mangawhai estuary viewed from Wintle Street - stormy skies still but the water looking much calmer than it probably had been the night before. Think we definitely need some sun to dry out the land here.
