Daffodils

 

On a piece of narrow land in between the Grey River/railway lines/main road/supermarkets, the local council (I assume) had workers plant hundreds of daffodil bulbs and every Spring they flower - nice to see some colour after Winter. I managed to get this snap on a cloudy day in between the storms we've been getting.

Daffodils

 

It's beginning to feel like Spring here. I drove past our local council buildings last week to see that daffodil sculptures had been put up on display in front of the fountain. These flowers are the one that New Zealand's cancer society use in order to raise funding for their organization. The wooden sculptures have been made by a local community group "The Menz Shed".

I'm not sure why someone's rugby boot got thrown up onto the grass though.

Yellow

 

I can hear the Coldplay song "Yellow" playing in my head. The daffodils are now flowering in my garden and in plant pots on the deck outside.

And the Kowhai tree in the front garden outside our bedroom is now starting to flower - we should start seeing Tui in it any day now.

Spring

 

I was on my way home after work last week and saw that all of the Spring daffodils were blooming next to the river and railway tracks across the road. We can definitely feel warmer temperatures in the air.

Daffodils

 

I just noticed the first Daffodil popping up in my front garden. I had bought some earlier this year from my work so it's good to see this, it means Spring is on the way.

And this Kereru aka Pigeon along with his partner has been sitting in the Kowhai tree outside our bedroom. I had thought originally that they were waiting for the flowers to come out but someone updated me yesterday that apparently they like to nibble on the new leaves.

Flowers

I was really encouraged to see these in town on Thursday. This long line of Daffodils are currently flowering at the lower end of town near the Cobden Bridge next to the Grey River.

Spring Daffodils

Daffodils are just about everywhere here right now. I spotted these ones in garden planters on the corner of 2 streets in Wesport last week. They smell divine.

Daffodils at Waimate North

You haven't seen much of me this week. I've been in Supervisor training at work so by the time I get home at night I'm pretty much ready for bed. We have been however exploring local places over the last couple of weeks on my day off and have been taking lots of photos of the scenery.

Last weekend was a bit chilly with a bit of a cold Winter breeze in the air but I think Spring is on the way as I did see these yellow Daffodils and white Jonquils at Waimate North in the countryside about 10 minutes out of town.

Spring at McLaren Falls Park

The other half has recently purchased a drone and on Sunday we drove around McLaren Falls Park trying to find somewhere he could test it's flying abilities.

We stopped at 2 spots but the areas were a bit exposed to the wind and the poor old drone was knocked to the ground where we found one of the propellers had come loose.

Along the way I got out of the car and went for a walk into one of the parks there, crossed a bridge over a small stream and found this area full of blooming Daffodils. Lovely to finally see evidence of Spring :-)

Time for Spring Daffodils

On the way home from work, yes again...I stopped by a nearby park because the scene of mass plantings of daffodils caught my eye. I just love the late afternoon/early evening sun reflecting over the yellow leaves :-)
