It's allergy season

This week I am down with the usual Autumn hayfever allergies, probably just as well I'm not working right now. In the weekend we caught up with an old friend of the other half's from school days, he had his wife and friends with him who were all travelling north on holiday. We met them at Langs Beach, about 15 minutes north of here and pretty much baked in the sun but this morning we had a good downpour of rain that was well needed. Still managed to get this photo of a Black Shag showing off in the sun along with the obligatory seagulls and godwits on the other side of the sand.

Here we have been hearing 24/7 of the spread of the Corona Virus around the world - are you worried about it or do you think not alot of it. I can't believe in other countries people have been stockpiling in supermarkets and shops - here we manufacture toilet paper and our own produce, meat here so people haven't really been going too nuts. Here people who come into the country are meant to be self isolating for 2 weeks but when we watched the news last night there were some people who had a blase attitude about it as they commented they couldn't be bothered doing that - it just amazed us really. This morning apparently a tourist got sent back home after arriving last night and going to a backpackers instead of self isolating.  Thoughts?

On a windy dusty road

This is one of the roads that turn off from the main road into our town, I've been wanting to stop and take a photo of the shed in particular and the daffodils for a while now but the wind has prevented me.

In the last 2 days we've had bad wind to the point where we had no electricity yesterday for 4 hours and apparently it wasn't just us, it also covered as far as Langs Beach and Waipu and back to Wellsford. It turned out to be a fallen tree that had bought some power poles down - credit to the guys who worked hard to fix it again.

Quite ridiculous but without electricity we were sort of at a loss, in the end I got a book I've been trying to get through and read some more of that but it makes you wonder how necessary it really is.

Langs Beach - I missed you!

This week the other half and I have taken a week off work to complete a tour of Northland, here in NZ which is the upper area of the North Island. I lived up in this region for 20 years but there are places I haven't been and I'm eager to show him some of my favourite places like this lovely spot...Langs Beach is somewhere I use to take my children to when they were growing up.

It's a regular feature to see a tractor towing a boat trailer away from the boat ramp. These gnarled trees line the whole beach as it winds around this part of the coast. They are great to sit or play on.

Such a neat view - the island in the background is called "Hen and Chicks". There is some great fishing in this area.
