I haven't visited this town in a few years but it's still a favourite place. Warkworth is about maybe an hour north of Auckland. The water i nthe scene is the Mahurangi River and flows out through the harbour to the Hauraki Gulf.

It's heatwave time

A couple of weeks ago we were exploring the Mahurangi Peninsula and stopped in Algie's Bay. It was already a warm day, it should've been an indication of what was to come.

I have very pale skin due to my Irish/Scottish/English ancestry so when I go out in the sun I have to put on sunblock, usually only particular brands work otherwise I end up red as a beetroot in a lot of pain.

At that point we were thinking of moving down this way but decided against it as the level of traffic that goes through Warkworth would be too stressful.

Anyway this week we've had record temperatures for this season. Usually Spring is temperamental, you get a mixture of rain and a bit of warmth. This week we've been in the early to mid 20s and other parts of the country have been up to 30. It really feels like Summer already.

I've had to finish my home help part time job I had, when I first started I knew the work wasn't regular but didn't quite expect it to be this bad. On average I've been working about 4 hours a week which really isn't enough. Because we live in a small town there really isn't much else and anytime a job becomes available everyone goes for it, it's really about who you know not what you know most of the time. So needless to say having no money has been quite financially stressful and I've been extremely bored. I was offered a part time retail job but the process of hearing about it has been quite laborious and slow, fingers crossed something comes up.

Fishing time at Scott's Landing

I first drove out here to Scott's Landing about 5 years ago and last week weekend we drove out there a good 45 minutes or so from home. Such a nice day and not much different from when I was previously here.

I happened to be reading their website and saw that a beach cleanup has been scheduled for early November. Definitely a good thing and something that should be done for every town on a regular basis - wishful thinking on my part maybe.

Anyway good news, I've been offered a permanent part-time job in another town about 20 minutes from here that I've decided to accept, start date is in 2 weeks time so looking forward to that.

Driftwood sculptures at Sullivan's Bay

While going through the archives on my external hard drive I found this amazing shot I took last year at Sullivan's Bay in Mahurangi of a driftwood sculpture someone made and set up. This is one of my favourite places to visit, sadly I haven't been there in quite sometime but isn't it beautiful?

Thoughts of summer - Sullivan's Bay

wow this place is stunning! This is Sullivan's bay in the Mahurangi Region of Auckland. When it is summer here in NZ the teens and I like to visit different beaches especially the ones that have floating pontoons out on the water - that way they get to swim out from the shore through the waves.

I remember the first time we visited this place was about 4 years ago while we were out driving. We stopped in at a local takeaways and bought wedges and ice cream then enjoyed them once we got out there. Such a lovely scenic view of the whole peninsula. Roll on summer - that way we can spend a day here again!

Snorkeling at Matheson Bay - December 2013

Here's one I took just before Christmas last year. The teens love to visit different beaches, this is one of their favourites called Matheson Bay. This man and his wife were getting ready to go snorkeling. Not sure if they ended up catching anything but some divers that came out after he went in came back with a bad full of Kina.

Found this one on of of my camera's memory cards from last Spring. It's the Omaha coastline. Quite amazing when I look at it cos I can see Rangitoto Island in the background and the Mahurangi Coastline behind it. Love!
