Grey weather

We were pretty lucky last weekend. Living on the West Coast there is a popular belief that this is the most rained place in New Zealand - it's actually not. the poor North Island has been repeatedly struck by storms, cyclones and huge amounts of rain. This week we have actually had rain and showers, typical Autumn weather - but nothing major. In the last 6 weeks I've finished 2 couch throws for Winter, one for me and one for B but I'm now halfway through a rainbow coloured one for my grand daughter Hailey who lives in Auckland.

I had to fill up my car again earlier this week and for half a tank it was $3.65 per litre, it cost me $68 so prices seem to be continuing to go up. I wonder when this silly situation will finally end?

I ended up posting a birthday card to my father on Tuesday which amazed me as 1 stamp cost me just under $3 which seems a bit expensive and the length of time sending anything from one place to another seems to take so much longer than it use to. My mother sent me a birthday card in March and it took well over a week. I think the post office system has shut down alot of it's services as people don't use it as much as they use to.

Lastly, I've finally given away the last of the pumpkins I grew over Summer. I kept 2, 1 I made pumpkin/corn soup with and the other 4 I gave away to friends. I think this year I'll try growing them inside the greenhouse over Spring in case we have heavy rain like we did last year.

Linking up with Skywatch Friday and Tom's Signs.

Our post went up too because people don't use it much anymore, except everyone sends more and more parcels so I feel this is a bit of an excuse to be honest. Surely the parcel profits could cover the mail costs?
Yes, lots of rain and storms is the norm though apparently next year we will be heading into drought...ugh. #Allseasons

Postal services are disappearing here in the last few years. The price of stamps is really high so we try to avoid it.

...postage is a bit cheaper here, but it going up this summer!

Comparing prices in different countries doesn't take into account exchange rates, average wages and other goods that might be cheaper, but your prices sound so high. Our postage stamps are $1.70, $1.00 for concession card holders and petrol prices have dropped to about $2.25.

Mild autumn weather, thoughtful handmade gifts, and garden generosity, all set against the quiet frustration of creeping prices and slower post.

Good work with the throws. I'm finally finishing a crochet one. It's has taken me all winter.
I hope we have some pumpkins this summer. Last summer I had loads of leaves and flowers but no fruit.

Glad I don´t have a car anymore and wee... I bought an item for €5. To send it to Australia would´ve been €25!!! Luckily I had a friend from there over and she send it much cheaper from Perth to Adelaide. Hilarious prices! So nice to see a Woolies :-)

We have had beautiful and mild spring weather here for quite some time now. I like that.

The issue of rising postal rates is also an issue here.

Looking out my window right now, I see grey clouds very much like the ones in your photo.

We seem to be getting rainy days all of this week. Hopefully the weekend will be nicer.

I feel your pain at the gas pump, although prices here are not as high as what you are paying. I guess it's all relative to what we were paying not long ago!

well done on the pumpkins. if you grow them in a greenhouse you won't be able to get in the door by the middle of summer

I did some computations and we mostly have the same gas price!

I´m so happy that I don´t have a car. But due gasoline prizes everything will cost much more in not so distant future.

I don't have a car so I'm not keeping up with the price changes to do with that. We only get mail delivered 2-3 days per week here now, and the cost of stamps has risen to quite ridiculous here too. Luckily I still have quite a few bought when they were cheaper, but which are still valid. I used to send lots of postcards both to friends and to "strangers" via Postcrossing.com, but I have cut down a lot on that in the last few years.
