Signs of Autumn at Kawakawa

Autumn skies and scenery at Kawakawa Bay where the tide was out. This lovely place is about 45 minutes south of Auckland central on the coast just before Orere Point.

You know Summer is on its way out when my sinuses and hayfever allergies start playing up...right about now.

Do you ever...?

Tell me something...do you ever doubt yourself that you can accomplish new things you've never done before? Growing up I use to think I was stupid but as I've gotten older (and I'm certainly not boasting that I"m intelligent in any way) I've realized that I'm one of those people who doesn't learn in conventional settings such as a classroom with a blackboard - I seem to learn better doing it myself in a hands on manner. The skills I've built up over the years have been from life experiences and I think that if I want to learn something I nut it out until I know I can do it.

Last week after being at my new job for less than 2 weeks I was promoted to being one of the 6 supervisors there. It makes me think that it's such an important role they must see something in me that the management think I can do well. I've had to work so hard in life to get where I am and to earn a wage so that I can provide for myself and when my children were younger. I'm kind of proud of myself that I've made it this far.

My question is: why are we so critical of ourselves when other people obviously see something different?

Road slips in Kaiaua

On Sunday the other half and I drove out to visit his sister and her husband in Orere Point. On the way we drove along the Kaiaua Coastline (pronounced Kie-awa) - all up it usually takes us about 2 hours to get there.

They must've had some serious rain here because all along the coast road it was lined with road slips. In fact most of it was down to one lane with orange road cones to show people how far they could drive.

From what we've been told this road has been like this for about a year and contractors have been busy trying to fix it. One part we drove along had bits of stone and dirt falling from the cliff next to our car - scary stuff!

Fishing Kayaks at Orere Point

A few weeks ago we were visiting family at Orere Point - on the Sunday afternoon I decided the weather was too warm and sunny to be stuck inside so I ventured out for a walk to the local beach and spotted these kayaks on the pebbled shore. The fishing rods are right up my alley, I was very envious as I haven't been fishing for quite some time but shortly after I took this photo a man and his small grand daughter hopped in one and paddled it around the corner to where their family were gathered. Looks like they would've had a great day :-)

Spring sunsets over Orere Point countryside

While at Orere Point last weekend, I happened to spot this sunset from the kitchen window. Since I'm a sucker always for a good sunset I quickly grabbed my camera. In the distance are a few trees but on the right if you can just see it is a farmhouse. Once Summer is here I'm looking forward to spending more time outside in the evenings.

Easter weekend at Orere Point Beach

This last weekend I was fortunate enough to spend time at Orere Point beach which is about 2/12 hours from here just out of Auckland. For the first day it was somewhat overcast and rainy as you can see from the above shot.

Seems there was a fishing competition on this particular morning of my walk along the beach. This boat was coming in and I saw in their chilly bin later on they had some very nice sized snapper.

A second boat came in just as it was beginning to rain. As it poured I stood beneath some pohutukawa trees to shelter and then 10 mins later the sun was out.
